Here’s a great list of summer reading programs that are FREE for kids. There are lots of fun rewards that are offered as incentives to get and help keep kids reading over the summer.
- Barnes & Noble: Read 8 books, Get 1 FREE. Ends 9/2
- Book Adventure: Kids can earn various prizes from Book Adventure sponsors by tracking their reading points and taking quizzes.
- Book It! Pizza Hut Summer Reading Program: Starts June 1st-Aug. 15th, each time your child reads 5 books, they can enter to win prizes. There is a total of 50 prize packages consisting of a tote bag, Pizza Hut gift card, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Books and More.
- Book It! Pizza Hut Summer Reading Program for Homeschooling Families: Through Sept. 1st, fill out the form to request free BOOK IT! materials for the 2014-15 Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program.
- 2014 TD Bank Summer Reading Program: Read 10 books and receive $10 deposited into your account. Ends 8/31.
- 2014 Chuck-E-Cheese Rewards Promotion: This program is not just for reading. Bring in a 2 weeks completed rewards calendar and your child will receive 10 free tokens.
- Half Price Books: Kids should read (or be read to) for at least 15 minutes a day during June and July. Once they read 300 minutes, they can turn in their log and earn $5 in Half Price Books Bookworm bucks. They will also award one reader in each age group a $20 Half Price Books giftcard.
- Pottery Barn Kids’ Summer Reading Challenge: Kids 10 and under will need to read the books listed on an age-appropriate list. Once they finish the list, they take their reading list to a PBK store and will get a free book. Ends July 17th.
- Sylvan’s Book Adventure Program:This program is for children in grades K-8. The search online for books and then find them in the library (or bookstore) and read them. Then, they come back and take quiz about the book and are rewarded with prizes for their reading success!
- Showcase Cinemas Bookworm Wednesdays (select locations): Each Wednesday int he summer (dates unknown), kids can bring in a book report (unless you are six and under and then admission will be free) – which will be cost of admission!
- JUNIE B. SUMMER READING CLUB: To participate in the Junie B. club, go and download a complete Reading Log, Activity Brochure and Sticker Sheet. Parents can sign up for the Junie B. Jones Parent Newsletter and keep updated with news of special events, sweepstakes, fun games and activities for kids, and more.
- Don’t forget your local library! Nearly every library offers incentives for summer reading and fun activities to occupy your kids during the summer.
